Nantahala River Rafting
|
| The Nantahala River offers the thrill and
excitement of riding river rapids in a raft, canoe or kayak while enjoying the scenic
Nantahala National Forest that surrounds it. Eight plus miles of constant waves and swift,
clear currents with an overall gradient of thirty-five feet per mile make the Nantahala
River a delight for almost all ages interested in learning whitewater rafting. The rafting
segment of the Nantahala River runs clear and cold as it is released from the bottom of
Aquone Reservoir and flows between the Beechertown Power Plant and Fontana Lake. The trip
takes a little over 3 hours and contains almost continuous class I and II rapids, with an
optional class III at the end. No matter if you go-it alone or with a guide, it will
be a memory you'll treasure for a lifetime.
Please note that in my extensive research I
have found that the US Forest Service Requires all rafters weigh at least 60 lbs before
rafting down the Nantahala River. Also,
the above photo is a picture of rafters taking what locals call the Hydraulic Hole. |
